Sancaktepe is located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. It is bordered by Çekmeköy to the north, Kartal and Maltepe to the south, Sultanbeyli and Pendik to the east, and Ümraniye and Ataşehir to the west. It was formed by the merger of the towns of Samandra, Sarıgazi, and Yenidoğan. Due to its nature as a basin area, it is a highly sensitive residential area. The region's connections to Kurtköy Sabiha Gökçen Airport, the TEM highway, and the TEM-Kartal connection road increase its locational importance.
