Esenyurt is the most populous Istanbul district and is on European side of the city. Esenyurt, located pretty far from the centre of the city, has been seeing an increase in housing estates built within the area for the last 10 years. The district has a cosmopolite character as it has inhabitants coming from all 81 cities of Turkey.

Economy of the district overwhelmingly depends on real estate sector and industrial activites executed by industrial plants within the area.
